Direct from God

“The Lord shall guide thee continually.” Isaiah 58:11

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”  (Psalm 37:23)
“The Lord directeth his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”  (Psalm 32:8)
“For this is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death.”
(Psalm 48:14)
“Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel.” (Psalm 73:24)
“Howbeit, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide thee into all truth.”
(John 16:13)

Clearly the Bible indicates that the children of God can seek and expect guidance from Him.  How, though, does God guide us?  The answers offered today are varied: some of them are ridiculous, some are plausible and some are downright strange.  To answer the question wisely, it behooves us to consider how God has guided the saints in the past.  How did God guide Abraham, Noah, Moses and David?  How were the prophets directed?  For all of these individuals the answer is the same.  God guided each one through His Word.  For some, God spoke His word to them audibly.  For others God spoke to them in a dream.  For many the written Word was their guide.  No matter the mechanism used, God’s Word was the guiding instrument.  How does God guide us today?  The answer is the same.  Through His Word.  Unlike the prophets and apostles, we have the completed Word of God.  God no longer speaks in dreams and visions or through voices we can perceive.  Instead, we have the great benefit of having the full Word of God to instruct and guide us in every path of our life.  Rejoice today in the direction of God, direct from Him through His written Word.  It is certain, it is verifiable, it is unchanging.  It is all we need to lead us every step of the way.  “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
